When Zhenja, who played my piano a few times last year, told me she wanted to play some home concerts in Holland I, of course, offered my place. It’s so nice to have a live music performance in a small homey setting like this! With about 16 people we enjoyed the Russian language, two guitars and the trumpet especially made for these two girls.

such a great day

This week is pretty low in boating and in weather, but very high in CouchSurfing. I dive full back into it again and I have a great time. This day was my best one since I’m back in Amsterdam. It started with meeting two travellers in Noorderlicht. Then I had organised a potluck dinner at my big table at home where I met old and new friends who all enjoyed nice food, drinks and chats. That night I hosted two great surfers.

Life is so nice and so simple. Just share your house, your food, your energy and you get loads of it in return. Sometimes I wonder why so many people create their world of gaining. I can only hope they enjoy their crisis.

give her confidence

My week with Marilyn inspired me a lot in several ways. The photography is beautiful and it’s a great power to fall in love easily. I enjoy Marilyn’s star behaviour. It doesn’t come from arrogance, it’s just a big difference between feeling confident or not. And it’s fun to see how others can or can not deal with that.

When people get annoyed by others behaviour they often forget that that behaviour is generally caused by in-confidence. Aggression for example, or repression, violence, doubt, mood swings, jealousy, shyness, lying. If you react on it in a way that makes the other feel even less confident, you only make it worse.

I try to make others feel confident and to understand why they’re behaving like they do. I learn that this makes people get along with me much better. And that’s great for both of us!

leaving Mexico

Tomorrow I’m leaving Mexico. It’s been great and I love this country. I enjoyed living in Holbox, San Cristóbal de las Casas and Mazunte a lot. The Mexican people are great, the climate is good, tamales and other Mexican food are delicious and the quality of life is very high. The country is one of the safest I’ve been in and life is affordable here. I can imagine living here much longer!

I’m so happy being confident in Spanish now. I don’t like studying so much and I always already want to know things before I put time in learning. Even though, I spent a lot of time reading courses in a book and online. Here in Mazunte I met Paulina and Kat, two great teachers with whom I practise conversations in Spanish. They both inspired me a lot and helped me get rid of my shyness in trying conversations in a language that I’m finally feeling confident enough in.

Spanish is my third language now. I’m not at all fluent yet, but it already got much better than my German, which I learned a few years at school but hardly used anymore afterwards. I’ll sure keep on practising my Spanish with CouchSurfers when I’m back in Amsterdam and it’ll help me revive my French from school and understand my Italian friends. It’s a new small step towards my favourite superpower: speaking all languages.

a nomadic life

The more I travel, the more I consider giving up my house, selling my stuff and living completely nomadic. A few days here, a few weeks there. Just go with the flow of my feelings, mood, love and the good weather. Living without monthly bills and with less than ten kilos of possessions.

Amsterdam is very comfortable. I’ve got a great house there, awesome work and an easy life. But that also makes me a bit lazy. And I don’t get surprised a lot. I’ll see how I like it this summer.

Time will tell. I think my intuition will tell me when I’m back there a month or two. I’m already curious how I’ll think about it then!

all good things end

All good things end and that gives space for new good things. I booked by flight back to Europe. It feels strange to me to plan a month ahead, instead of deciding every morning where I’ll go or whether I stay, but that’s just not how it works when you want to fly cheap. So March 17th I fly to Cancún and then to Madrid. I’ll probably spend some days there before coming home to Amsterdam. Until the 17th I’ll stay in my beloved paradise Mazunte.
